English: The legacy USB plugs are all USB plugs except Type-C (USB-C).

When USB‑C was released in 2014, all other USB connectors – Standard, Micro, and Mini – were designated legacy, as the single Type‑C connector replaces all of them (as well as some non-USB connectors), with a superset of their capabilities for both data and power, and eliminates the AB directional distinction.

The legacy USB plugs fall into two classes: the USB 2 plugs, which carry only USB versions 1–2, and the USB 3 plugs, which can also carry USB 3. All USB 3 receptacles accept both USB 3 and USB 2 plugs.

In all pre–USB‑C connectors Type‑A designates the host receptacles and the plugs they accept, and Type‑B the peripheral device receptacles and the plugs they accept. Type‑AB receptacles accept both Type‑A and Type‑B plugs.
